This Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum) in soft pink is showing off beautifully against the purple background provided by an Acer.
Poppy seeds are edible, however to be sure you have the right variety, buy the seeds at your local health store.
Sow the poppy seeds during the first new moon in springtime directly in the bed where you want them to flower. Since the seeds are so small there is no need to cover them. Keep moist until germinated.
The best news yet, they will self-seed the following year!
