Lupinus polyphyllus

Lupinus polyphyllus Grown From Seed

Lupinus polyphyllus grown from seed

This is the one flower I unmistakably associate with bumble bees. It is commonly known as a Lupin.

The tall blue in the picture has been germinated indoors & grown on for over two summers, this is its first flower.

The seed was harvested from a colony in a wild medow where conditions were quite damp, so if it dries out slightly the leaves will start wilting immediately, quite temperamental I would say.

Over the long run, the common blue variety will be much hardier than other garden hybrids and will definitely come back the following year.
